The Otto1890 Wellness Day served as an important reminder that when organisations invest meaningfully in the wellbeing of their people, they build stronger teams, healthier cultures and more sustainable businesses.

At Otto1890, we often speak about being Human at Heart. It is more than a philosophy or a value statement. It is a conscious commitment to building a workplace where people feel supported, valued and empowered not only in their professional capacity, but in every aspect of their lives.

As the Human Capital function, we recognise that organisations thrive when their people thrive. In today’s evolving world of work, employee wellbeing can no longer be viewed as a standalone initiative or a once-off campaign. It has become a strategic business imperative linked directly to engagement, resilience, productivity, culture and long-term organisational sustainability.

This philosophy came to life through our recent Otto1890 Wellness Day, an initiative designed to place our people at the centre of the conversation and create meaningful awareness around holistic wellbeing.

In partnership with organisations that share our belief in people-centred support, including Discovery Health, Kaelo, Clarity Wave, Prism Employee Benefits and several other service providers, employees had the opportunity to engage directly with specialists, advisors and wellness professionals who unpacked the tools, services and resources available to support them throughout different stages of life and work.

What makes Otto1890 distinctive is our understanding that wellness is not one-dimensional. As a business operating within a health and people-focused ecosystem, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to approach employee wellbeing in an integrated and proactive manner. Our partnerships allow us to offer employees access to support structures that address physical health, emotional wellbeing, financial resilience, workplace engagement and preventative care creating a more holistic employee experience.

Throughout the day, employees participated in open and authentic conversations around mental health, emotional resilience, healthcare access, financial preparedness, retirement planning and employee engagement. The atmosphere reflected a culture of trust, curiosity and care, where people felt comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences and exploring the support available to them.

Each partner brought a valuable and differentiated perspective to the experience:

Discovery Health highlighted the importance of preventative healthcare, proactive wellness management and accessible healthcare support in helping individuals lead healthier and more balanced lives.

Kaelo reinforced the importance of mental and emotional wellbeing, reminding employees that seeking support, guidance and counselling should be viewed as a strength rather than a stigma.

Clarity Wave demonstrated the value of employee voice, engagement and workplace culture, showing how listening to our people helps shape a more connected, responsive and high-performing organisation.

Prism Employee Benefits provided valuable insights into financial wellness and retirement readiness, reinforcing the important link between financial security, peace of mind and long-term wellbeing.

One of the most powerful aspects of the Wellness Day was the level of engagement across the business. Employees took time to connect, ask meaningful questions and better understand the support structures available to them. In many ways, the day became more than an event  it became a reflection of the culture we are intentionally building at Otto1890.

As Human Capital leaders, we believe that the future of work requires organisations to move beyond traditional employee value propositions and create environments where people feel genuinely cared for, heard and supported. Wellness is no longer separate from business performance; it is foundational to it.

As a business rooted in heritage but firmly focused on the future, Otto1890 continues to recognise that our people remain our greatest differentiator and most valuable asset. Being Human at Heart means understanding that behind every role, every deliverable and every strategic objective is a person with ambitions, pressures, responsibilities and aspirations.

The Otto1890 Wellness Day served as an important reminder that when organisations invest meaningfully in the wellbeing of their people, they build stronger teams, healthier cultures and more sustainable businesses.

Because at the heart of every successful organisation are people who feel seen, supported and valued.
